It was Emerson who wrote, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” For some that greatness just needs to be awakened.
Julio Iglesias wasn’t always able to sing. Originally the entertainer wanted to be a professional soccer player. His career dreams were sidelined when a car accident left him paralyzed from the waste down and with little chance of ever walking again.

During the Vietnam War Gerald Coffee was held as a POW for seven long years. Kept in isolation and tortured to his captors’ delight, he made a decision that would forever alter his future. During his time imprisoned in a foreign land he chose to grow from his experience.
He worked on his health by exercising his body. He worked on his mind by finding gratitude moment to moment and mentally reliving the happiest days of his life. He worked on his spirit by regularly communicating with God while trapped in a cell.
Upon his release he said he wouldn’t have changed his experience for anything. In his very core he had discovered the meaning of life and no jailer was able to take it from him. Holding onto his values and character in the most trying circumstance forever emblazoned those traits upon his heart.
For Julio Iglesias and Gerald Coffee, massive obstacles led them to the inner chamber of their souls. When their world was turned upside down their focus turned inward, and in the process they discovered the greatness within.
That same greatness lies within every human heart. It is there waiting to be released. You don’t have to face hardships to find it; you simply have to look deep inside. It might be buried beneath critical spirits and cold hearted comments. It might be covered by doubts and disappointments, but it is there nonetheless, waiting for you to discover it.

The Amazon Kindle cover that comes with the electronic reading device is rather inadequate with some things that will annoy someone who’s just spent a several hundred dollars on a high-quality piece of electronics. There are also non-leather “Leisure Jackets” that sell for less, but on the whole the M-edge is a luxurious addition to the Kindle cover arena.

The June 12 presidential election Nigeria held in 1993 will precisely go down in the world as the election with results coming after 15 years going by the declaration of the umpire, Prof Humphrey Nwosu fifteen years after the presidential elections were held. The election would go down in history as that which one of the candidates also deemed the acclaimed winner lost his life fighting to claim his mandate even in a mysterious circumstance. Not only that, the election also will be found on the pages of Guinness Book of Records as the election which saw a High Court located in the capital of the country sitting in the midnight just to see to the annulment of the election in yet a mysterious circumstance.
This particular election could also go down in the history of the country as the freest and fairest election ever held in Nigeria, and election that forced the then military president and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces to compulsorily step aside. This is June 12 election an election that observes a public holiday in Nigeria, which today is the most popular election in the country today.
In Nigeria, today “June 12” unarguably means, “that which is a forgotten issue” among the youths. “June 12” means different things to different people in this country but for Prof Humphrey Nwosu it meant a time to perhaps clear the name of his mentor, Ibrahim Babangida or saw I perceive it.
What is further surprising to all those who also took fifteen years to await the declaration of the winner of that presidential result is why it took the NEC chairman, Prof Humphrey Nwosu fifteen years to announce the winner of that election in the person of Chief M. K. O. Abiola (now Late) or can a dead man ever claim his mandate? But of more astonishing is the exoneration of the then Military President
Hear him:
“The greatest support and strength I received was from the President (Babangida). He exhibited the strongest political will and provided adequate financial and moral support that sustained me throughout my tenure as chairman of NEC,” With this development, one is bound to see some complicity in all of it.
How can Humphrey Nwosu convince a rationale human being that a president, like Ibrahim Babangida with complete maximum power allowed had all of these happen behind him? It is even more despicable to reason that a president who bore, owned and nurtured the then two political parties would go to sleep and allow the election to die, after instructing the same Humphrey Nwosu to stop announcing the results and who consequently go ahead to declare the annulment of the election, with fearful, and threatening attitude which denied the perceived winner the opportunity to claim his mandate. This is even worse when we remember that the same president was to hand over to another Yoruba man who was to step aside in yet another circumstances not known to Nigerians. We hope that the then interim president will one day come out to tell us how it happened maybe after writing his own book.
Humphrey Nwosu would heap all the blames on people of Northern extraction except perhaps Clement Akpamgbo. Is he telling us that no one Yoruba or people from other regions of the country were involved? Even a baby a child in 1993 would have patiently listened to unfortunate comments coming from people at that time. If this child were to gather these comments and conduct his research, such a child would positively arrive at a result better than what Nwosu has told us and expects us to believe. In Nwosu declaration of how everything went, nothing was heard of M. K. O. Abiola’s running mate who was to later accept a position in the new government, which replaced the said winner while he was languishing in jail.
In the ceremony to unveil the Book which he (Nwosu) published virtually all the key actors in the nations’s political scene during and after the annulled election were slated for one position or the position, including Ibrahim Babangida, the key player as the guest of honour; Chief Ernest Shonekan, slated to chair the event and Gen Theophilus Danjuma (Rtd) billed to be the Chief launcher. Only Babangida would send a representative in the person of Brig. Gen. Halilu Akilu (Rtd.) another key player fingered by Nwosu himself. One wonders what the Prof was seeking to achieve.
Two arrowheads named by Prof Humphrey Nwosu as those behind the infamous annulment have however defended themselves in separate reactions, exonerating themselves. I may however call on those who know to please come up with their accounts of what happened

Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is at the top of the list of John McCain’s possible running mates, according to a top McCain fundraiser with ties to his inner circle.
John McCain probably owes some debt of gratitude to Mike Huckabee for playing the role of useful idiot that helped McCain clinch the nomination over reasonable candidates. This isn’t to suggest McCain wouldn’t have been a reasonable candidate under the right (or better, left) conditions. Say for example, John had went with his urge and done the Republican Party a favor when he considered leaving the party earlier in the decade. In this scenario he could be running with his own crowd in the Democratic Primary. One could reasonably say that McCain would have filled the role of Kerry’s running mate (something he said he would consider) in 04 and therefore launched his bid in 08… from the appropriate party.
I have to give McCain credit for perseverance in his quest for what he seems to view as his destiny. Following the 2000 denial of his coronation and his bitter frustration for having to wait eight years, he stacked the deck this time around. McCain benefited from three key factors, in my opinion.
McCain-Feingold served its intended purpose to restrict donations and air-time to the true conservatives that would naturally not receive favorable coverage, or any coverage from the “parrot press” as Mike Church calls them.
Four key early primaries allowed “independents” to vote and keep McCain’s unlikely hope afloat. (Obama backers that take issue with Republicans voting for Hillary need only look at this circumstance before crying foul!)
Huckabee helped McCain get rid of Romney, the last reasonable candidate, and ensured that McCain finally reach the next step toward the ultimate gratification of his massive ego.
Factor number three is as good a reason as any for McCain to consider fellow liberal Republican Mike Huckabee as a running mate. Huckabee is good on abortion and… that’s about it. The V.P. doesn’t nominate judges, so that one positive is rendered insignificant. Huckabee was awful on the illegal alien issue until it was convenient to get tough and once McAmnesty is pushing his McCain Kennedy agenda again (he is already hinting at its return,) Huckabee could easily slide back into his comfortable , compassionate toward illegals role.
Huckabee also seems to be a good fit for McCain on this weeks liberal issue: anthropogenic global warming. From salon.com:
A conservative Republican and devout Christian, Huckabee believes he has a biblical responsibility to protect God’s planet from climate change, even though he’s not convinced that climate change is largely human-caused. But mandatory limits on greenhouse-gas emissions make him squeamish.
He may have to get over the squeamish feeling, but I’m sure the opportunity to stick it to “big business” will be enough to entice the former governor to tag along with McCain’s economically treacherous plan.

There we have it. Proof that McCain is joining whichever admitted Democrat wins the nomination in declaring war on American industry. Ignore the chilly April and May of this year. How does further crippling manufacturing and product processing help the little guy that these populist politicians pretend to serve? Is it that we will be better off without the jobs that will be lost due to the new and deadly regulations? Is it that we will spend what little money we can scrape together, more wisely since the cost of everything will be through the roof? Is it that the old Soviet-style economy was so attractive that those of us that weren’t fortunate enough to experience it, really, really deserve an opportunity to live the “Socialist Dream?” Perhaps it is nostalgia for “the good old days” that motivates power hungry imbeciles to try to recreate the era known as “The Great Depression.”
Is there any reason McCain shouldn’t pick Huckabee? I don’t think his running mate will matter at this point. McCain seems content to ride the hope that the disgruntled supporters of the losing admitted Democrat candidate will follow through with their promises to cast their votes for McCain in November. If McCain does not need the help of thoughtful conservatives, I say we give him what he needs.
I suggest that any Sirius Satellite Radio owner that shares my angst tune into Mike Church’s show on Patriot 144 (8-11am CST) for a daily dose of entertainment and perspective that is faithful to the vision of our founding fathers.

In any given situation, if you perceive the circumstance or information to be important and you intend to recall it later, you can then make your choice to focus on it, interact with it to make it personally meaningful to you. This will take less effort to remember later.
Adding details and repetition are also some of the more usual ways to help you create a personal relationship with that piece of information or experience. You can add details through any of the five senses that is, adding visual, auditory, smell, taste or tactile cues to the information. By creating multiple links to the fact, you are adding a variety of access points to that which you want to remember.
Like learning to ride a bicycle, the information is so ingrained in us that we do it on a subconscious level.
Using Mnemonics can also help you remember information better, like the abstract. For example, to remember the “classic” named colours of the spectrum or rainbow (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet), it can be easier for some people to remember the mnemonics “Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain” or “Roy G. Biv” (a made-up name) instead. You can also use a method, in reverse “VIBGYOR” pronounced “vib-GYOr”.
Although we tend to remember less as we grow older, as the brain’s processing ability slows down, there is no reason we should not engage in mental activities like playing chess, scrabble, or solving puzzles to keep our mind’s sharp. Learning new strategies can also help the brain to cope with the slowing down and make you mentally-fit.
Here then are some tips on better short term memory.
Intention
Paying attention to details, staying alert, and being motivated to concentrate are all states of the mind. You don’t need to take a magic pill or go into deep meditation. All you need to do is to be self-aware of situations throughout the day and it will become a habit. Paying attention takes effort but the effort pays off most of the time. For example, most short term memory complaints have nothing to do with the actual ability of the brain to remember things. They arise from a person’s inability to pay attention on the situation at hand. Can’t remember where you left your keys? Simply pay attention to where you left it. As simple as this may sound, it takes frequent practice to make it a habit. Start your mental exercise in the morning, be aware of how you place your toothbrush, or tube of toothpaste in the morning. Then change it the day after, and try to remember later during the day.
Always focus on the task at hand and block out everything else. For example, if you are studying for a difficult subject, switch off your TV or radio. Any form of distraction will only serve to dilute what you need to remember. Need to write a compelling report or article? Close yourself up in room without any interruptions.
Develop A Plan:
Try to have a time gap in between when you have to learn large chunks of information. This is so that new information do not overlap each other. Having the habit of using mind maps can help you to summarize and recap what you have learnt in an easy-to-see and review plan. For example, when you are trying two new recipes at the same time for the first time, it’s harder to get them right. But if you master one before the other, you will have less difficulties remember the two down the road.
Use Your Imagination
You can remember things better if you attach meaning to them. Spending a little time to make the attachment can make it all worthwhile when you need less effort to recall them later. For example, when meeting new people for the first time, take note of what they are wearing, their facial features, hair, physical attributes etc. For example, a lady named Isabel wearing a red dress. Imagine a big red bell on a tower going ding, dong, ding-dong loudly. It’s A Bell! Difficult words and mathematical equations can similarly be recalled in the same way.
Develop A Habit:
Lets say you parked your car in a mult-level carpark. Make sure you remember which level you parked your car. Is there a nearby pillar? As you exit the carpark, turn around and take mental note of the view. Are there pipes running in a certain way or is there a fire-hose nearby? For example, you parked your car on Level 3 lot B. In your mind’s eye, remember 3 giant bananas. Developing a habit to remember where you place your keys, where you park your car etc, will help you make the most of your short term memory and the efforts are well worth it, considering the time wasted and exasperation you can face without a strategy.
